Biennial Conference '07

Editorial

Dr Stan Innes Stan Innes BAppSc(Chiro), BA(Hons), Mpsych.

The year is well under way now. How quickly the memory fades of the Festive season break. This edition contains a diverse array of material. As usual I have tried to present what is news from the research world. Simon French has applied his pedant eye and keen mind to analyse a recent Australian study published in the prestigious journal The Lancet which has questioned the benefit from additional physical therapy after care from a general practitioner (GP) for people with acute low-back pain (Hancock 2007). John Reggars has equally applied his incisive mind to review the recent Cassidy et al study in Spine further exploring the risk of vertebrobasilar stroke and Chiropractic care. John stands well qualified after helping compile COCA’s most recent VBI risk module. It is also especially pleasing to be able to recognise the recent awards of OAM’s to Drs Falge and Vindigni. COCA also extends its congratulations for this prestigious recognition of their generous contributions to the marginalised and disenfranchised. It is exciting to see COCA involved in innovative post-graduate education programs, as announced by COCA president Dale Comrie.

I would like to take a few lines to recognise the recent resignation of COCA Chief Executive Officer John Jannese. My early days as Editor of COCA were wonderfully supported by John’s experience, knowledge and executive craftsmanship. He has more than capably applied his considerable experience in the business world for COCA’s benefit over the past 5 years. I have found him to be a delight to work with and would like to wish him all the best for whatever the future may hold and extend COCA’s thanks for a job well done.

I once heard David Whittaker say that he looked forward to seeing COCA News in the mail. He would grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a quiet read. I hope this edition is an enjoyable coffee read. As usual, please feel free to forward any material you think is suitable or potential topics for exploration.
