Biennial Conference '07

Dr Peter Werth Awarded COCA Life Membership
By John Jannese Chief Executive Officer, COCA

At the recent COCA 7th Biennial Conference held in Melbourne, Acting President, A/Prof Henry Pollard presented Dr Peter Werth with Life Membership of the College, following on from his retirement as President this year due to family and work commitments.

I am sure many of you would know that Dr Werth, together with Dr Bruce Walker established in 1990, the Victorian based Chiropractors & Osteopaths Musculoskeletal Interest Group (COMSIG).

In 1992 COMSIG became the Chiropractic & Osteopathic College of Australasia (COCA) and again Dr Werth was one of the founding members. In 2001 Dr Werth was formally elected President of COCA, a position he was to fill for nearly 6 years.

During this period Dr Werth presided over COCA’s first 5 year plan and the introduction of Chiropractic & Osteopathy COCA’s open access internet journal, the signing of a reciprocal membership agreement with The College of Chiropractors (UK), the COCA Membership Directory, COCA Certified Practising Members (CPM) initiative linked to lifelong learning, the COCA Practice Accreditation Program, COCA e-news, engaging governments at all levels pertaining to professional issues of concern to chiropractors and osteopaths, responding to registration board policy initiatives, together with expanding COCA membership privileges such as Hertz car rental, HICAPs, a shop front COCA membership decal, AMP Banking products, Professional Indemnity & Product Liability Insurance Insurances through QBE Australia, expansion of the range of COCA endorsed products, introduction of student awards and outreach to all Universities, together with overseeing COCA’s vibrant professional seminar and conference program over the years.

Dr Werth leaves the College in a very strong position to move forward into the future.
