Multi-Nation Study on the Non-Musculoskeletal Benefits of Chiropractic
A study into non-musculoskeletal benefits after chiropractic care is now under way. The project title is “A multi-nation study on the types and frequencies of improved non-musculoskeletal symptoms reported after chiropractic adjustment”.
It is being lead by Dr Charlotte Leboeuf-Yde and her research team in Denmark. The $250,000 study has been funded by the World Federation of Chiropractic and in Australia is being facilitated by the CAA. There are 3 research officers for the study in Australia. Peter Bryner covers WA, Ray Hayek from Macquarie University for NSW & Qld and Max Walsh for Vic and SA. Other countries involved in this research project are Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and the USA.
The primary aim of the study is to look at the effects on non-musculoskeletal functions within 2 weeks following an adjustment on patients presenting with a primary complaint of musculoskeletal pain. These effects include changes in breathing, vision, hearing, circulation and digestion among others. Each chiropractor would randomly select 10 patients, giving a total of 1,500 cases in Australia and approximately 6,000 worldwide.
If you would like to take part in this major clinic-based research study then contact Dr Max Walsh at RMIT. (Ph): 03 9925 7688 (Fax): 03 9467 2794 email: max.walsh@rmit.edu.au or write: c/o The Chiropractic Unit, RMIT University, Plenty Rd, Bundoora, VIC 3083.
