ASRF And The Future
Chiropractic and Osteopathy have always had a reputation of being different, non-orthodox or non-mainstream. But this does not mean our professions are unscientific or that the treatments are not justified.
Recent events at Macquarie Uni have re-inforced the existence of these differences and highlight the lack of knowledge of some individuals. It appears that even with PhD degrees some individuals can’t or won’t accept our professions. For example, one senior academic stated that there is little evidence to validate chiropractic treatment. We have also received comments like “you have a lot of publications but most are only chiropractic journals”. One of the most effective methods to rebuke these people is to produce quality research in as large as quantity as possible. I also believe that the area we should focus on initially is clinical research.
To achieve an increase in funds for the ASRF to develop a larger research quantum, we are planning on holding a charity auction at Dynamic Growth 2001. Send me details of what you have been able to “beg, borrow or steal” or contact me for help: pjtuchin@optushome.com.au. I will keep everyone informed and together we should help the future of our professions.
Peter Tuchin, Chiropractor
